The last vestiges of humanity are being hunted by aliens who relish a person’s thoughts and fears, absorbing them as they hunt their prey. Tracking one such human through a forest, will this alien succeed in killing its target?

A truly frightening and riveting tale about a akm-thoughtshorrifying enemy that appears unstoppable and one human’s struggle to survive as it’s mercilessly hunted. These aliens have a terrifying and debilitating weapon and then they chase human beings to extinction – it’s a spine-tingling short story!

I read this short story when it was originally published in Tales from the Canyons of the Damned: No. 5, a collection filled with much more electrifying and heart-pounding short stories just like this one!

Short Story Title: Second Invasion: Attack on the Alamo City – Alien Invader, Book 2

Author: A.K. Meek

Editor: Jessica West

Publication Date: April 22, 2017

Available on: Amazon as an ebook

Indie Athenaeum Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Trisha is walking through downtown San Antonio, Texas with her two young children when strange aliens start falling out of the sky! These aliens are terrifying, armed with a gruesome weapon. If that’s not chilling enough, the aliens also absorb a person’s memories as they die! What will Trisha do when faced with this onslaught and will these aliens succeed in their invasion?

Trisha’s struggle to survive kept me glued to the page as we not only learned her recent history but also how this informs her tenacity in this unprecedented situation. The writing brings you deep into the memories and experiences of each character as they face these aliens and I felt the terror as the aliens tasted their victim’s thoughts.

akm-secondThe impact of these memories on the aliens as they did this was also an unexpected but welcomed point of view. Ultimately, this intense story gave me deep shivers while also keeping me riveted with each ghastly death.

I read “Second Invasion” when it was originally published in Tales from the Canyons of the Damned: No. 11, a collection filled with much more suspenseful short stories just like this one!

This story takes place in the same world as the author’s story Thoughts as Water: Valley of Misery (Alien Invader Book 1). It is just as hard-hitting and full of despair as this one is and is also just as outstanding. So, if you like this one, go read that one as well, as they can be read in any order.
