Happy new year, everyone – welcome to the year 2020!
2019 was a busy year for The Indie Athenaeum. After six-plus years of reviewing books, I decided to open this book blog on April 17, 2019! Since then, I’ve published one-hundred and twelve posts over the course of the year. Let’s break that down into some more specific numbers, shall we?
Brand new, never before seen book reviews: 46
Older book reviews added to the Reading Room: 43
Short Story Corners: 11 (with two short stories reviewed in each post)
Blog posts: 7
Audiobook reviews: 3
Magazine reviews: 1
Movie reviews: 1
Some special features were also done, including an audiobook giveaway and an exclusive interview with two co-authors, which can be found here.
We also did one magazine article – “The Top 10 Sci-Fi Books You Need to Read in 2019”, which was published in issue #1 of Gravity City – a brand new digital magazine. You can read it here if you haven’t already done so.
As for my goals for the year 2020, I have some cool ideas lined up. Some of those ideas are already planned out all the way through December of this year.
Of course, there will be plenty of brand new book reviews and some of my older reviews will be added to this blog. I already have two new book reviews written, which will be published in the coming weeks, with more to come for the month of January. There’s plenty of books in the review queue too. I also plan to do more author interviews this year.
I have some big ideas that I want to try and I want to bring you coverage of some cool events. This year, I have plans to apply for a press pass for BookExpo America, coming up in May 2020. Yes, that’s right. I want to bring you inside the publishing industry’s leading convention, the biggest book fair in the United States, open only to publishers and trade professionals.
I also have plans to apply for a press pass to New York Comic Con, coming up in October 2020. There is so much cool stuff that happens here, the biggest popular culture convention on the East Coast.
I want to share all of this with my readership. Let’s hope that I am approved for a press pass! If I can get in, I’ll be able to provide coverage of these events and share it all with you, my wonderful readership!
In 2019, this book blog’s inaugural year, I’ve been so impressed and touched at the positive response I’ve received from the independent publishing community and from the readers of this blog. I want to thank each and every one of you for all the love you’ve shown me as I’ve launched this book blog and continue to nurture it. I’m humbled, grateful and very appreciative of the strong outpouring of support I’ve received (and continue to receive) every time I publish new content.
I’ll continue to bring you the best reviews I can write, with some cool content along the way. And maybe a few surprises as well. Onwards into 2020!
